Addon Update and Guide Recorder!

The addon has been updated to v1.6.1! You can download it here, or from the addon site of your choice. Changes this time through include:

New Features
  • Several guide files have been updated
  • Tooltip added to the minimap
  • Sound added when you complete a step (optional, customizable)
Bug Fixes:
  • General cleanup of quest loop up process
  • Fix issue

Also: The WoW-Pro Guide Recorder has arrived! You can download it here or from your addon website of choice. It's still a bit buggy and the scroll feature doesn't seem to be fully functional with it yet, but it definitely works!

ANYONE IN THE BETA - it would be a HUGE help if you wanted to run the recorder while you play, pretty much in any zone. If it's a zone which already has a "paper" guide, it would be best if you followed the guide - but even if it doesn't have one or you don't follow it, it's still a really big help to get those guide files started.

When you are ready to quit or reload your UI, make sure you hit the save icon. This will pop up a window with an edit box. Select all, copy, and post the result here on the website. It will then also save the guide in your WTF folder, so you can open it up and work on it again. If copy/pasting the stuff from the edit box doesn't work for you, you can also send the WTF file in.

Thanks in advance, it would be awesome to have an army of WoW-Pro folks recording guides for pretty much every zone in the beta. Looking forward to it!

Coming Soon: I'll be working on a major site organizational update, along with WoW-Pro user Skumball. We're focusing on moving old or outdated guides into work-in-progress mode and getting guides up to date and in places where they will be easy to find. Additionally, I'll be improving addon documentation, the how to contribute page, and the needed guides page.

Look forward to it!

  2. There was a DNS change over, and I believe it's slowly resolving itself. For a while I could not access the site either, but now I am able to.

  3. Hey Jiyambi!

My Guide Recorder pane doesn't look like the one here. I have Record, Stop, -, the one that looks like a page and the save button is outside a bit. I couldn't get it to save when I used it. Is there a step I'm missing? It said Record while I was playing. Not sure what to do now. lol. Fantastic idea! Love it! :)

  4. I wanted to get some more documentation up this weekend but I've got a midterm and some homework due tomorrow so I didn't get to it :(

Basically what you have is correct - I haven't enabled all those buttons yet so I only made visible the ones that actually do stuff :)

Make sure you hit "save" before you log off, then load up the guide you were working on before you start playing again! Then, all you have to do to submit what you record is, after you've loaded the guide up (it should be the last one on the guide list) - press save, copy paste the stuff in the edit box, and send it to me via PM or comment!

  5. Excellent! Thanks for the quick response.

I hope to try it again tonight, hopefully I'll be able to reload what I was working on. I couldn't get the save button to work, but the page icon let me create a guide. We'll see! lol.

Are any of the low level Cata guides in the addon yet? I don't know how to code for that, but if I can find time I hope to do some guide work of some kind. :) Trying to get a handle on some of this Wow-Pro behind the scenes stuff so that I can be of more help. :D I've really enjoyed the site.

Good luck on your midterm! Homework sucks!

  6. I really appreciate your interest and enthusiasm :)

What happens when you hit save? It should pop up a window with an edit box that you can copy/paste from :( Let me know exactly what happens (or if nothing happens) so I can make sure it's working properly!

Low level things that are coded - Goblin 1-5, Troll 1-5, Durotar 5+ (I think), Worgen 1-5, maybe 5+. Goblin 5-10 is being worked on. I think someone did human 1-10 too but I'm not certain. Someone was working on Night Elf 1-10. Draenei doesn't need much work at all, and Blood Elf has been updated already.

Anything else, and especially 10-60 stuff, needs doing! :)

  7. When I hit save I got an error message, which of course, I closed out of habit, without copying. >.< Then when I hit it nothing happened at all. I'll try it again shortly and see what happens.

Are the Cata guides in the addon download, or do I need to get them from somewhere else? I may as well test them as I go along, if possible.

Found a few small changes in the Goblin 1-5 from the paper guide, will post them later on Wow-Pro. :)

I figured that there would be plenty of people running toward 85, so I'll stick to the lowers for now. :D

  9. Nothing happening when I hit Save. When I try to Create a New Guide, nothing happens when I hit Register. Will keep trying. :)

  10. K, I know what's happening, basically the problem is that you have to press enter for all the fields in the create guide window, even if they were automatically filled out. Then when you hit register guide, it will change your current guide to a blank one with only one step labeled "first step" or something like that.

I know this isn't very clear, you may just want to wait until I get a chance to write the documentation later this week, hopefully Wednesday.
